The Opposite of Cadetberry, Right?

Please pardon Miss Vinegar's long absence. Truth to tell, after an unfortunate incident caused her to write off the Baja Fresh chain forever (and, with any luck, scar a flippant young service worker for life, which was nice but no verde enchilada), Miss Vinegar retired to her decaying Southern Gothic lair, shrouded her restaurant fridge magnets with little black curtains, and mourned, sustained only by Cheez Whiz toast and strong sweet tea.

Eventually, however, Miss Vinegar was persuaded to put aside the black veil and gloves and return to the business at hand: telling random people where to eat.

Elderberry's
Route 419 near Brambleton, Roanoke, VA

The Food--Elderberry's specializes in smoothies, and the Key Lime Pie in particular, with its graham-cracker crumbles and whipped cream, is an ideal summer treat. They also serve excellent soups and wraps, but be forewarned: the wraps aren't the overstuffed creations you might be accustomed to. Strictly human-being-sized food, reasonably priced.

The Service--Fast, efficient counter service.

The Ambience--Quite like an ice-cream parlor: the restaurant doesn't have a lot of space, but does use it well.

Special Touches--For a local chain, Elderberry's is heavy into merchandising, including T-shirts, infant onesies, and flavored lip balm.

Overall: Three point five stars out of five--the point five specifically for the outstanding mushroom and brie soup.
