Home of the Steepburger

There: in one phrase Miss Vinegar has let you in on the worst thing about this week's review, namely some of the prices. However, as Daddy Vinegar used to say right before Mother Vinegar got mad at him, money isn't everything.

Red Robin
Valley View Boulevard in Roanoke

The Food-- Allow Miss Vinegar to raise the veil on her hat to let out a wolf whistle and a "Yowza." Information received from others familliar with this chain had damned Red Robin's burgers with faint praise ("It's all right, but..."). Miss Vinegar is happy to inform you that they couldn't have been talking about either the mushroom-Swiss burger or the Chili Chili Cheeseburger, both of which were outstanding. The fries could use some work, but for thick-cut steak fries they were really quite good. The restaurant features a nice selection of burgers, traditional entrees, sandwiches, salads, and fantastic milkshakes and malts. Think Archie and Betty all grown up.

The Service-- Ran the gamut: hostessing a bit shaky, service excellent.

The Ambience--In appearance, a hipster version of Shoney's; otherwise, LOUD. When Miss Vinegar cannot tell "We Will Rock You" from "Rock Me Amadeus" from the song the pounding beat actually turned out to belong to (a little help here, PoBoy, if you remember...), you know your fellow diners are noisy.

Special Touches--Check out the tower of onion rings!

Overall: **** (four stars out of five)
